How to play

  • Aim: tap or drag on the course to aim that way. On a keyboard use ← → (hold Shift to turn 5 degrees at a time), or the ◀ ▶ buttons on screen.
  • Club: choose the driver, wood, iron or wedge (↑ ↓ keys). The number under each button is the longest carry you can get from where the ball lies now. Distance drops in the rough and drops a lot in bunkers. On the green only the putter is used.
  • Swing: press the swing button or Space three times. The first press starts the meter filling to the right. Press again at the power you want and the marker heads back to the left. Press a last time when it reaches the centre line of the green zone on the left.
  • Pressing late (past the green zone) curves the ball left with a hook; pressing early curves it right with a slice. If you never make the last press, the shot goes out with the biggest curve.
  • Wind pushes the ball while it is in the air. Check the arrow and speed at the top left and adjust your aim. After landing the ball rolls according to the ground: a long way on the green, a short way in the rough, and not at all in a bunker.
  • A ball in the water costs one penalty stroke and you play again from near where it went in. Out of bounds also costs one stroke, and you replay from the previous spot. A hole ends once your strokes reach double its par.

Tips for a lower score

  • A putt that comes up short never drops. The dashed line on the meter is the distance to the hole, so stop just past it. Hit it too hard and the ball runs by or lips out.
  • The marker comes back faster than you expect on the last, accuracy press. Once power is set, move your eyes to the green zone straight away.
  • In a crosswind, aim a little into the wind. Longer shots stay in the air longer and get pushed further.
  • Having the distance does not always make the driver the right club. Hole 8 has a creek about 210 m from the tee, so laying up short of it with a wood or iron is safer.

The course

The classic course has 9 holes and a par of 36 (two par 3s, five par 4s and two par 5s).

  • Hole 1 (par 4): straight, with bunkers either side of the landing area and beside the green.
  • Hole 2 (par 3): a pond between the tee and the green.
  • Hole 3 (par 5): doglegs right, and the second shot has to carry a creek.
  • Hole 4 (par 4): doglegs left, with a lake down the left side.
  • Hole 5 (par 4): a narrow fairway with three bunkers in the middle and a strong crosswind.
  • Hole 6 (par 3): an island green surrounded by water.
  • Hole 7 (par 5): an S-shaped hole with a lake to the right of the green.
  • Hole 8 (par 4): a creek crosses about 210 m from the tee.
  • Hole 9 (par 4): out of bounds close on the right and a pond left of the green.

FAQ

Does it follow the official rules of golf?
No, it is simplified for play. A ball in the water takes a one-stroke penalty and is dropped automatically near where it went in; out of bounds takes a one-stroke penalty and you replay from the previous spot. The real rules' relief options, green slopes and grain are left out, there are 5 clubs instead of 14, and ending a hole automatically at double par is a house rule of this game, not an official rule.
How are wind, hooks and slices worked out?
Wind only acts while the ball is in the air, so longer shots are pushed more. The ball curves by how far you miss the accuracy zone: the driver curves most and the wedge least. Putts do not curve; they only start slightly off line.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. Tap or drag on the course to aim, then use the club buttons and the big swing button below. The page does not scroll while you drag on the course.
Where are my scores saved?
Only in this browser. Your best total on the classic course and your best on today's course (for that day only) are kept separately, and nothing is sent to a server. This game has no friend ranking room.
Can I reduce motion?
If your device is set to reduce motion, each ball flight is shortened to about 0.35 seconds and the view jumps to the new position instead of panning.
