How to play
- Press Start, or select the board and press Space or an arrow key. Steer with the arrow keys or W, A, S, D.
- On a phone, swipe on the board in the direction you want to go, or use the arrow buttons below it.
- Each piece of red food is worth 1 point and makes the snake one square longer.
- With solid walls, touching the edge ends the game. With wrap-around you come out on the opposite side. Running into your own body always ends the game.
- Press P or Esc to pause at any time. The game also pauses by itself when you switch tabs.
Tips for a higher score
- Get used to sweeping along the edges. The middle fills up fast once the snake is long.
- Before you turn toward the food, think one or two moves ahead: where will your body be when you get there?
- Zig-zagging through one part of the board keeps the rest of it open as the snake grows.
- Two quick presses are queued in order, so for a U-turn press the two directions one after the other.
A short history
Snake games trace back to Blockade, an arcade game released by Gremlin Industries in 1976. Two players each steered a line that left a solid trail behind it, and whoever crashed first lost. Many variations followed, and interest surged again in the late 1990s when a version came preloaded on mobile phones. Reflexa's snake is a new take on those old rules.
